Hand crafted by Jason Smith - one of Fender's most well resepcted Masterbuilders - this 2009 Fender Masterbuilt '63 Relic Strat is an excellent recreation of a revered period of the Strat's evolution. It captures the look, feel, and tone of a well-loved original model complete with period-correct specs and tasteful relic work that authentically replicates decades of play.
The guitar features a select alder body finished in a classic three-tone sunburst, and expertly aged to reflect the wear and patina of a vintage instrument. The subtle checking, worn edges, and aged hardware all contribute to a broken-in, player-ready vibe that feels familiar from the first chord.
The quartersawn maple neck is carved to a medium “C” profile, offering a smooth, rounded feel that's neither too slim nor too chunky. The rosewood fingerboard features a 9.5" radius and medium jumbo frets giving the guitar a slightly more modern feel while maintaining the vintage aesthetics. The neck is finished in thin nitrocellulose lacquer with light relic wear for that desirable broken-in feel.
Under the hood, this Strat is equipped with a trio of hand-wound Custom Shop '60s Strat pickups, voiced for bell-like clarity, warm mids, and just the right amount of vintage snap. The classic 5-way selector switch and master volume/tone controls allows for a wide range of Stratocaster tones from bell-like neck pickup cleans to biting bridge pickup leads.
